XPS Composite Panels for RVs

More and more RV manufacturers are beginning to use foam core composite panels as construction materials for RV bodies in order to seek better thermal insulation and lightweight effects. Among them, FRP facing XPS composite panels are widely recognized and praised. XPS(Extruded Polystyrene) foam is a kind of rigid foam with unique micro-closed-cell honeycomb structure. FRP sheets are made from a mix of fiberglass and resin (usually polyester resin).

The combination of these two materials has the following advantages:

  • Thermal Insulation: FRP sheets and XPS foam have low thermal conductivity and excellent thermal insulation properties, which can effectively reduce heat conduction.
  • Compression Resistance: XPS foam can withstand a lot of pressure without changing its structure.
  • Lightweight: FRP sheets and XPS foam have lower density and therefore are lightweight.
  • Moisture-proof and Waterproof: Because XPS foam has a closed-cell structure and does not absorb water, it can prevent moisture penetration. The surface of the FRP sheet is protected by gel coat. Composite panels therefore perform well in humid environments and maintain stable performance over the long term.
  • Bright Surface: The gel coat gives the FRP sheet a smooth, clean surface. And its surface color and texture are diverse.

One Piece XPS Composite Panels for RVs

TOPOLO one-piece composite panels for RVs use advanced adhesive composite technology. We can do:

  • Composite panels do not delaminate, deform, or fade.
  • The maximum size is 3.2mx12m, which meets the production needs of all existing types of RV boxes.
  • High-precision CNC machining meets the requirements of complex designs.

Side Panels & Roof Panels

Various accessories, such as doors, windows, skylights, air conditioners, vents, solar panels, etc., need to be installed on the side panels and top panels, and they also need to resist external impacts, squeezes, scratches and other problems. This undoubtedly requires higher structural strength to ensure its stability and reliability.

How to increase its strength?

  • Embedding materials inside composite panels can enhance their structural strength. Usually, fiberglass profiles, wood, aluminum pipes and other materials are selected according to requirements and embedded in places that need to be reinforced. Reasonable embedded materials can also facilitate the installation of water pipes and wire lines.
  • Composite isolation materials. A layer of energy-absorbing insulation material (usually GMT (Glass Mat Reinforced Thermoplastics)) is added between the FRP sheet and the XPS foam core. It can greatly improve the impact resistance of RV panels.

Front Panels & Rear Panels

Usually, the front and back panels are not flat geometric shapes, and some designers will consider using curved designs. Many RV manufacturers use molds to produce curved parts, which undoubtedly increases their manufacturing costs. TOPOLO adopts a simpler and more reliable production process: cutting some grooves of a certain depth on one side of the produced composite panel to achieve the required arc. This kind of curved composite panel not only has a low cost, but also maintains its thermal insulation performance.

Floor Panels

RV floors bear the weight of the user and the equipment inside, so they need to be strong, durable, as well as thermal insulation and waterproof.

TOPOLO’s recommendation is XPS foam core flooring with a vinyl leather surface. Typically, vinyl leather is added to the FRP faced XPS sandwich panel, or a layer of plywood is added to the interior of the composite panel. This type of composite flooring meets the needs for durability, thermal insulation, water and moisture resistance, and comfort. And the cost is lower than solid wood flooring.
